Meet Mr. Harris
Sean is originally from Beaufort South Carolina but grew up a Military Brat and has lived in various places including 4 years in Japan. After graduating from High School in Rantoul, Illinois Sean attended the University of Southern Mississippi earning a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education in 1998.
From 1998 – 2002 Sean served as an assistant Band Director at Biloxi High School in Biloxi, Mississippi. During this time he served as the District Percussion Director, High School Symphonic Band Director and co-taught other Instrumental Band classes grades 6 – 12.
For 25 summers Sean taught and developed the curriculum for the National Smith Walbridge Band Clinics focusing on training High School and College Drum Majors.
In 2002 Sean was granted a 2 year Teaching Assistantship towards a degree in ‘Conducting’ at the University of Iowa. While at the University of Iowa Sean Conducted the University Concert Band and wrote music and drill for the Hawkeye Marching Band. This includes Music and drill for the 2004 nationally televised Outback Bowl halftime show.
From 2004 – 2007 Sean served as the Assistant Band Director and District Percussion Director at Madison Central High School in Madison, Mississippi. During his time there at Madison, his students won numerous awards including a ‘Mississippi Indoor Association Championship’ in 2005. He also served as the State Percussion representative for the All State Band Clinics in 2005 and 2006. His District7th Grade, 8th Grade and High School Percussion Ensembles were featured at the Mississippi Day of Percussion in 2005. In 2007, the Madison Central Indoor Percussion Ensemble, competed at the WGI World Championships and had a 4th Place finish in Percussion Scholastic ‘A’ Finals.
Sean has spent the last 11 years as the Assistant Director of Bands at O Fallon Township High School in O'Fallon, IL. While teaching at O’Fallon, the Band Program has gained recognition at the State, Regional, and National Level. Some notable achievements at O’Fallon include:
Marching Band: 2011 Performance at the 70th Anniversary of Pearl Harbor; 2 time Marching Band State Champion (2015 & 2016); 2015 Tournament of Roses Parade Performance, ‘Sudler Shield’ nomination in 2015, 2016, & 2017; BOA Clarksville Class 4A Regional Champion in 2015; Bands of America Grand National Semi-Finalist: 2011, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017 and a 14th Place Grand Nationals finish in 2017.
Concert Bands: 2011 Wind Ensemble Performance at the Illinois Music Educators National Conference; 2014 Carnegie Hall Performance; Wind Ensemble Performance at the 2016 Music For All National Concert Band Festival; 2017-18 Freshman Concert Band has been invited to play at the University of Illinois ‘SuperState’ Concert Band Festival in May of 2018. They are only the 2nd Freshman Band in the entire state of Illinois to ever receive an invitation to this event.
Sean is a member of NAFME (National Association of Music Education) and has been an
Innovative Percussion Artist/Educator since 2007.
His family includes his lovely wife Shalyne who is from Charlotte, MI and graduated from MSU. He also has 2 Beautiful daughters Cadence (4 years old & Felicity 1 year old) Fun Fact: Sean is one part of 2 Sets of Twin Boys.
